PRESS RELEASE
August 13, 2008

The family of Lukus Glenn, who was shot and killed by Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies on September 16, 2006, filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit today against Washington County, the deputies who shot Lukus Glenn, the City of Tigard, and a Tigard police officer.

Hope and Brad Glenn, the parents of Lukus, 18 years old at the time of the shooting, had asked for a public review in the weeks and months following the shooting.  The law enforcement version of the shooting contained glaring inconsistencies and self-contradictions that were never resolved.  For example, officially the deputies were over 23 feet away from Lukus—outside of taser range.  Deputy Mateski and Officer Pastore, however, in their statement and chart prepared two days after the shooting, along with all of the lay witnesses, placed the deputies and officer at 15 feet from Lukus—at optimal taser range.

Additionally, law enforcement claims that the beanbag rounds fired had no effect on Lukus Glenn and that he continued to act out well after the firing of the beanbag rounds.  The clear, audio record of the events, however, reflects that the lethal fire was discharged while the six beanbag rounds were being fired.

Hope and Brad Glenn would like to publicly thank the community for its countless expressions of support over the past two years.
